Chancellor Rachel Reeves has announced a £600 million investment aimed at tackling the UK's ongoing construction skills shortage. This strategic funding is designed to close the critical skills gap and ensure the UK can meet its housing and infrastructure demands, ultimately driving economic growth and job creation.
Research has highlighted the urgent need for an additional 251,000 construction workers by 2028 to keep pace with the growing demand. Without addressing this gap, the UK risks falling short of its construction targets and facing delays in major infrastructure projects.
This funding initiative is directly aligned with the government's ambitious goal of delivering 1.5 million new homes by the end of the current Parliament. The investment will focus on training up to 60,000 skilled workers to help meet this target and address the broader skills shortages across the sector.
Key components of the funding package include:
Additionally, the programme will support the creation of foundation apprenticeships, industry placements, and foster collaboration with construction businesses to build a sustainable, long-term skilled workforce.
With this new funding, Devine Group is poised to continue to work alongside the country's leading developers to further contribute to the UK’s housing goals.
